Torrazzo of Cremona

The Torrazzo of Cremona is the bell tower attached to Cremona Cathedral and is a prominent brick tower in the city skyline. It is renowned locally as a major civic and religious landmark and as an example of medieval and Renaissance tower construction in northern Italy.

The tower contains a large astronomical clock mechanism on its façade and historically has served both as a bell tower and as a civic timekeeper for Cremona. Its vertical presence forms a focal point on the cathedral square alongside the cathedral itself.

Construction of the tower occurred over the medieval and later periods, with successive building campaigns that produced the tall brick shaft and the clock installation. The tower has been maintained as part of the cathedral complex and adapted for public access to upper observation levels.

Situated on the main square beside Cremona Cathedral in the historic centre of Cremona, the Torrazzo overlooks the surrounding Po Valley plain and is within walking distance of local museums and civic buildings.
