Tolhuaca National Park

Tolhuaca National Park in Chile’s Araucanía Region protects Andean landscapes of volcanic peaks, native forest, and mountain streams, with the Tolhuaca Volcano as a dominant feature. The park is a setting for hiking, wildlife observation, and outdoor recreation in a temperate Andean environment.

Trails in the park lead into native forest stands and toward higher volcanic slopes, offering options from short walks to longer day hikes. Visitors come for mountain scenery, river gorges, and the chance to see regional flora and fauna typical of the southern Chilean Andes.

The park was established to conserve the volcanic landscape and surrounding native forest ecosystems and has been managed to permit controlled public access for recreation and nature study. Facilities are basic compared with larger national parks; access is usually from nearby towns and forest roads.

Tolhuaca National Park sits in the northern Patagonian Andes of Araucanía, north of the town of Curacautín and within reach by regional roads from larger cities in the region.
