Tiergarten (park)

Tiergarten is a large central park in the heart of Berlin, established from historic hunting grounds and now covering roughly 210 hectares as a public urban park. It functions as the city’s principal large green space west of the Brandenburg Gate.

The park contains broad lawns, mature trees, formal avenues and water features, and hosts memorials, statues and recreational amenities. The Victory Column sits on an axial plaza inside the park and is a well-known viewpoint.

Originally part of the Electors’ hunting grounds from the 16th century, it was landscaped in the 18th and 19th centuries and later adapted after wartime damage in the 20th century. The park has long served both leisure and ceremonial functions in Berlin.

Tiergarten occupies a central position in Berlin’s Mitte/Charlottenburg area, bounded by major boulevards and adjacent to landmarks such as the Brandenburg Gate, with multiple U-Bahn and S-Bahn stations providing access.

• Café am Neuen See: The Café am Neuen See is a lakeside refreshment spot frequently used by visitors in warmer months and located near the park's western pathways.
