Tholos de El Romeral

Tholos de El Romeral is a megalithic tholos tomb near Antequera in Andalusia, southern Spain, dating to the late Neolithic or Chalcolithic period. It is a circular burial monument with a chamber covered by a corbelled vault and entered via a short passage.

The monument’s plan and construction show distinct differences from nearby passage-grave dolmens, combining a corbelled chamber with a narrow dromos and monumental entrance. Visitors inspect the stone-built chamber, the preserved entrance stones and the site’s setting on a low promontory.

Archaeological study places the tholos within the region’s later prehistoric funerary tradition, and conservation work has stabilised the masonry for presentation to the public. It forms part of the broader Antequera megalithic landscape that includes several major tombs.

The tholos stands a short distance from the town of Antequera in Málaga province, in a landscape of rolling farmland and karst outcrops in inland Andalusia.
