Theodor-Heuss-Platz

Theodor-Heuss-Platz is a public square and transport interchange in the Charlottenburg district of western Berlin, Germany, named after the country’s first postwar president. It serves as a major traffic junction and contains an U-Bahn station on the U2 metro line.

The open square and surrounding roads form the western end of the broad Kaiserdamm avenue; the area includes administrative and commercial buildings and provides pedestrian routes toward neighbouring parks and shopping streets. The U-Bahn station beneath the square connects passengers west toward the outskirts and east toward central Berlin. The square is primarily functional rather than a single tourist attraction, used frequently by commuters and visitors transferring to nearby sites.

The space was laid out in the early 20th century as part of west Berlin’s urban expansion and has since served transport and civic functions, with changes over time to road layout and transit facilities. It was renamed in the postwar period to honour Theodor Heuss.

Theodor-Heuss-Platz lies in the western borough of Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf, roughly 7 to 8 kilometres west of central Berlin’s Mitte district. It sits adjacent to the Kaiserdamm and is close to the Messe Berlin exhibition grounds and other western city amenities.
