Thasos

Thasos is a Greek island in the northern Aegean Sea, noted for its forested interior, beaches and ancient marble quarries. It has several small towns and villages clustered around its coasts, with the port town of Limenas on the north coast serving as the main arrival point.

Popular coastal areas include sandy and pebble beaches, seaside villages like Limenaria and Aliki, and archaeological sites that reflect the island’s long history of quarrying and settlement. Inland, pine-covered hills and rural roads offer hiking and scenic drives.

The island was settled in antiquity and was long known for its marble and agricultural production; remains of ancient settlements and quarries are visible in several places. Over time Thasos developed as both an agricultural centre and a seasonal seaside destination.

Geographically, Thasos lies a short distance off the northeastern Greek coast in the northern Aegean, reachable by ferry from the mainland ports of Keramoti and Kavala.
