Test Stand VII
Ruins Historic V-2 rocket test stand at Peenemünde
World War II V‑2 rocket test stand at Peenemünde; visitors come for Cold War and rocket history, outdoor remains and the nearby Peenemünde Historical Technical Museum.
Test Stand VII is the principal World War II-era rocket test stand at Peenemünde on the Baltic coast of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. It is the location most closely associated with early German development and static testing of the A4/V-2 rocket.
Visitors to the area encounter large concrete test foundations, blockhouses and ancillary buildings that formed the test complex; interpretation is provided by the Peenemünde Historical Technical Museum nearby. The remains are significant for understanding 20th-century rocketry and wartime engineering rather than as intact industrial facilities.
The stand and associated facilities were constructed in the 1930s as part of the German Army research and development program and were actively used in the late 1930s and during World War II for static tests and experiments on the A4/V-2 series. After the war the site was left largely in ruin and later became the subject of preservation and museum interpretation.
The site sits on the Peenemünde peninsula on the island of Usedom, on Germany’s Baltic coast in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The location is accessible by road and is linked to museum facilities that manage visitor access and interpretation.
- Museum access: Interpretive displays about the German A4/V-2 rocket program are available at the nearby Peenemünde Historical Technical Museum.
- Site condition: Site consists mainly of reinforced concrete ruins and foundations; there is no active testing - the area is visited for history and engineering heritage.
What to See #
- Test stand structures: Concrete remains of the main rocket test stand and the adjacent foundations are visible on site and interpreted by the nearby museum.
- Bunkers and workshops: Surviving bunkers and workshop foundations are grouped around the stand, forming part of the larger Peenemünde rocket development complex.
How to Get to Test Stand VII #
Peenemünde is reached by car via the island of Usedom (A20/E251 to the Peenemünde turnoff), or by regional trains to Zinnowitz/Benz and bus connections in season. The Peenemünde Historical-Technical Museum is adjacent to the test stand ruins; follow local signage and check museum transport links.
Tips for Visiting Test Stand VII #

- Bring layers - the site is exposed to Baltic winds and can be chilly even in summer.
- Respect signage and restricted zones: many structures are fragile and historically sensitive.
