The square contains several notable early 20th-century and interwar buildings and is adjacent to pedestrian shopping streets and cultural institutions. It has long been a commercial and transport hub, with tram and road connections linking much of the central city.
Terazije sits in the heart of Belgrade, between the main pedestrian Knez Mihailova street and government districts; it is within walking distance of the Sava and Danube rivers and the historical centre of the city.
