Temple of the Sibyl
Museum Neoclassical pavilion in Poland commemorating national heritage
In Puławy’s landscaped park, the Temple of the Sibyl is a 19th‑century neoclassical pavilion overlooking gardens and the Vistula; visitors tour parkland, statuary and riverside viewpoints.
The Temple of the Sibyl in Puławy is a small classical-style rotunda located in the landscaped park of the Czartoryski estate in Lublin Voivodeship, Poland. It dates to the late 18th and early 19th century as part of the estate’s landscaped garden ensemble.
The structure is a compact circular temple-like pavilion set on a terrace overlooking the Vistula River, originally designed to house a collection of historical objects and serve as a patriotic museum. It is one of several garden follies and memorial buildings within the Czartoryski park.
Commissioned by members of the Czartoryski family around the turn of the 19th century, the rotunda was intended as a museum and a memorial feature within the estate. The building has been repaired and conserved at various times and remains a focal point in the park.
The temple stands in the historic Czartoryski park in Puławy, on the high bank of the Vistula River in eastern Poland.
- Function and design: The building is a small classical rotunda modelled on Italian examples of the period and was created as a garden pavilion and museum-like repository for mementos.
