Temple of Minerva Medica
Museum Roman ruin once misidentified as Minerva temple
The so‑called Temple of Minerva Medica is a late Roman brick ruin in Rome-an octagonal nymphaeum whose shell survives amid urban sprawl; visitors see large-scale Roman masonry and the awkward juxtaposition of ruin and modern roads.
The structure commonly called the Temple of Minerva Medica is a ruined late Roman brick rotunda on the Esquiline Hill in Rome. It is an example of late antique monumental architecture with a large, partly surviving domed drum and dense brickwork.
Built in the late Roman period, the building is generally considered to be a 4th-century structure and has been variously interpreted as a nymphaeum, hall or other monumental facility. The medieval and modern name is a misattribution rather than a documented ancient dedication.
The ruin stands in the Esquiline area of central Rome, not far from Termini station and the ancient Aurelian approaches. It is visible from adjacent streets, while interior access is limited and controlled by local heritage authorities.
- Access note: A late Roman brick rotunda commonly misnamed in modern sources; exterior and remaining structure are visible from the surrounding streets.
