The Temple of Apollo Palatinus was a temple on Rome’s Palatine Hill built under the emperor Augustus and dedicated in 28 BCE. It served as a major religious and cultural monument within the imperial quarter.
Ruins and archaeological traces of the temple survive within the Palatine Hill archaeological area and are visited as part of tours of the Palatine and Roman Forum. The site is notable for its direct association with Augustus and the early imperial cult.
Construction was commissioned by Augustus following his political ascendancy and the temple was dedicated in 28 BCE as part of Augustan building programmes that linked the emperor to Apollo. The building functioned in the imperial cult and as a marked statement of Augustan ideology.
Situated on the Palatine Hill in Rome, the temple stands within the archaeological complex that includes imperial palaces and other Augustan-era monuments, overlooking the Roman Forum.
