Taveuni is a volcanic island in Fiji’s Northern Division and is commonly called the “Garden Island”; it is the third-largest island in the Fijian archipelago. The island is noted for dense rainforest, waterfalls and an extensive fringing reef system.

Onshore attractions include Bouma National Heritage Park, which protects rainforest, waterfalls and marked trails, and the Lavena Coastal Walk with its coastal pools and falls. Offshore, the Rainbow Reef and the celebrated Great White Wall offer widely known dive sites famous for bright soft corals and steep walls.

The island combines terrestrial hiking and waterfall visits with world-class scuba diving and snorkelling, and small resorts and villages are centred around the eastern settlements and Matei Airport. Visitor services are concentrated near the airport and the main villages.

Taveuni has long been inhabited by indigenous Fijian communities and features traditional villages and cultural sites. In the 20th century the island developed small-scale tourism focused on its natural parks and reef diving.

Situated northeast of Vanua Levu in Fiji’s northern island group, Taveuni is reachable by short domestic flights to Matei Airport and by ferry connections from neighbouring islands.

  • Access: Regular domestic flights arrive at Matei Airport on Taveuni, providing the main air connection to Fiji's larger hubs.
  • Highlights: The island is widely known as the "Garden Island" for its dense rainforest and fertile soils, and for world-class soft coral diving on nearby reefs.
