How to Get to Taupō

Taupō is best reached by regional flights into TUO or by InterCity coach from Auckland/Wellington. There is no direct passenger rail; coaches and rental cars are the normal surface options for reaching the town.

By Air

Taupō Airport (TUO): Taupō has a small regional airport with scheduled flights (e.g., to/from Auckland and Wellington at varying frequencies); the airport is about 5-10 minutes’ drive from the town centre and taxi fares are typically NZD 10-25.

Auckland (AKL): For international arrivals, fly into Auckland and take a coach (InterCity) or drive to Taupō - coach travel is ~4-5 hours depending on route and fares commonly NZD 30-60 one-way.
