The Țarcu Mountains are a mountain range in southwestern Romania, part of the Southern Carpathians, with several peaks rising above 2000 meters. They form part of the mountainous border zone between Romania and Serbia and are known for rugged ridges and forested slopes.
Mountain trails and alpine meadows are the primary attractions, with areas of montane forest, mountain pastures and small glacial lakes. Hiking routes and backcountry routes connect ridgelines and valleys and provide access to high passes and viewpoints; terrain includes steep forested slopes and open subalpine areas.
The massif developed through the same Alpine orogeny that created the Southern Carpathians and has long been used for seasonal pastoralism, forestry and local mineral extraction. In the 20th and 21st centuries parts of the range have been included in regional conservation efforts and hiking maps.
Geographically the Țarcu Mountains lie in Caraș-Severin County in southwestern Romania, close to the border with Serbia and within the broader Banat mountain area.
