How to Get to Tarariras

Tarariras is reached overland rather than by air: Montevideo's Carrasco airport is the nearest international gateway, and local/regional bus services connect Montevideo and Colonia to Tarariras. Uruguay's passenger rail network does not serve the town.

By Air

Carrasco International Airport (MVD): Montevideo’s Carrasco (MVD) is the main international airport for Uruguay. From MVD you reach Tarariras by road (see bus/shuttle options below) - there are no direct commercial flights into Tarariras.

Colonia del Sacramento (CYR) / Regional fields: Colonia has small aerodromes for private flights but no scheduled commercial service that reliably serves Tarariras; most visitors fly into Montevideo and continue by road.

By Train & Bus

Train: Uruguay has very limited regular passenger rail service and there is no practical passenger train serving Tarariras.

Bus: Intercity buses are the main public transport for Tarariras. Buses run from Montevideo (Tres Cruces terminal) and Colonia del Sacramento to Tarariras; journey time from Montevideo is roughly 2-3 hours depending on route and stops.
