Main image

Tapo-Caparo National Park is a protected area in Táchira state, western Venezuela, that conserves mountainous and riverine terrain. The park’s name reflects major rivers and watersheds within its boundaries.

The park contains cloud-forested slopes, river valleys and remote upland terrain typical of the Venezuelan Andes’ southern foothills. Access is often difficult and facilities are limited compared with better-known national parks.

Venezuelan authorities designated the park to protect watershed values and native habitats in the Andean foothill zone, restricting activities such as large-scale logging and development.

Geographically the park lies in western Venezuela within Táchira state, occupying parts of the Andean foothills and river catchments away from major coastal plains.

  • Riverine and Andean foothill protection: Named after the Tapo and Caparo river systems, the park conserves Andean foothill landscapes and important watercourses in Táchira state.
