Talalolae
Island Islet of Nui atoll in Tuvalu
Islet on Nui atoll, Talalolae offers lagoon shores and traditional village contact; visitors are limited to atoll visits, fishing and low‑key cultural exchange.
Talalolae is a small islet on the reef of Nui atoll in Tuvalu. It is one of several narrow, low-lying islets that form the atoll’s ring.
The islet supports typical atoll vegetation and is part of Nui’s traditional land and maritime landscape. Like other Tuvalu islets it has no major infrastructure and is used locally for fishing, coconut cultivation and occasional visits rather than permanent large settlements.
Talalolae is situated within Nui atoll, one of Tuvalu’s nine atolls in the central Pacific. The islet and the atoll lie in a remote part of the Pacific Ocean and are reached by boat from the atoll’s main villages.
- Low elevation and vulnerability: Like other islets of Nui atoll it is low-lying and vulnerable to sea-level rise and storm surges, which are ongoing concerns for local communities.
- Access: Access is by boat from Nui's main villages and there are no significant public facilities on the islet, so visits require local arrangements.
