The Stubai Alps are a mountain range in the Tyrol region of Austria forming part of the Central Eastern Alps. The range contains high glaciated peaks, alpine valleys and popular mountain recreation areas.
Key attractions include the Stubai Glacier ski area and alpine peaks such as Zuckerhütl, which rises to about 3,507 meters. The area supports a long network of marked trails, alpine huts and technical climbing routes, and is used year-round for mountaineering, hiking and winter sports.
The Stubai Alps have developed infrastructure for tourism including cable cars, mountain huts and valley-base resorts; they are accessed from Tyrolian towns and are within driving distance of Innsbruck and other regional centers.
Geographically the range sits in Tyrol, Austria, with valleys that connect to the Inn valley and approach the city of Innsbruck to the north and east.

How to Get to Stubai Alps #
The Stubai Alps (Stubaital) are accessed from Innsbruck in Tyrol. The Stubaital (Stubai Valley) lies south of Innsbruck - driving takes around 25-45 minutes (roughly 20-30 km) via the Stubai Valley road (B183/Stubaitalstraße).
Public access is possible on the Stubai Valley Railway (Stubaitalbahn) from Innsbruck to towns such as Fulpmes; from those valley towns you can take local buses, cable cars or short walks up into the alpine areas and lifts.
Tips for Visiting Stubai Alps #
- Take the first morning cable-car rides (Stubai Glacier, Schlick 2000 or other local lifts) on summer weekdays to avoid queues and to get the clearest alpine views before clouds build.
- Use Neustift or Fulpmes as base villages and plan one day to explore a quieter valley trail (rather than only the most popular summit routes) to escape the busiest sections.

Choose winter for skiing and summer for hiking; late spring or early autumn offer fewer crowds but more variable access to high routes.
