Strečno Castle

Strečno Castle is a medieval hilltop fortress ruin above the Váh River near the village of Strečno in the Žilina Region of Slovakia. The site is a local landmark and serves as a museum and viewpoint over the river gorge.

Visitors can explore the upper ruined stronghold with surviving walls and towers, view exhibition rooms in the lower areas, and use terraces that look out across the Váh River valley. The site is compact but offers substantial panoramas and photographic viewpoints.

The castle originated in the medieval period as a fortified site controlling the river route and the local territory; it was modified and rebuilt several times over the centuries before falling into ruin. In modern times parts of the structure have been conserved and adapted to house museum displays about the castle and regional history.

Strečno Castle stands on a rocky outcrop above the Váh River close to the village of Strečno, roughly east of the city of Žilina, along the main valley corridor in northern Slovakia.
