St. Pantaleon's Church

St. Pantaleon’s Church is a Romanesque church in Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is one of the city’s historic Romanesque churches with origins in the early medieval period.

The building contains a large nave, an early medieval crypt beneath the choir, and a surviving cloister; liturgical spaces and tombs are among the architectural highlights. The church is valued for its Romanesque masonry and simple, robust interior volumes.

The present church fabric dates mainly to the 10th to 12th centuries and was established on an earlier Christian site; it later served as an abbey church and underwent restorations in subsequent centuries. Architectural repairs and conservation work have taken place intermittently since the 19th century.

The church stands in Cologne’s old town close to the Rhine and within walking distance of the main city centre and cathedral, making it accessible from central Cologne.
