St Blaise's Church
Religious Site Baroque church in Dubrovnik with historic architecture
Baroque church dedicated to Dubrovnik’s patron saint on the Stradun in the Old Town; attended for its ornate interior, the annual Feast of St Blaise and proximity to medieval walls.
The Baroque Church of St Blaise (Crkva sv. Vlaha) is in Dubrovnik’s Old Town and is dedicated to the city’s patron saint. The present building was completed in the early 18th century and is one of the most recognizable churches in the historic centre.
Sited on Luža square near the Rector’s Palace and the Stradun, the church is a compact Baroque building often photographed from the square. Visitors typically note the church’s dome, its decorative façade and the interior altar settings used for parish worship and public ceremonies.
A medieval church stood on the site before the catastrophic 1667 earthquake. The current Baroque structure replaced earlier buildings during the post-earthquake reconstruction and was finished in the early 1700s.
Located in the heart of Dubrovnik’s walled Old Town, the church sits on Luža square beside the main pedestrian street known as the Stradun, within easy walking distance of other key landmarks in the historic centre.
- Feast day (St Blaise): The annual feast of Dubrovnik's patron saint on 3 February includes a morning mass, processions and traditional local rituals centered on the church.
- Central Old Town location: The church stands on Luža (the main town square) immediately off the Stradun, making it easy to combine with a walking tour of Dubrovnik's Old Town.

Tips for Visiting St Blaise's Church #
- Go first thing in the morning or after mid-afternoon to avoid the cruise-ship and day-tour crowds that concentrate on Dubrovnik's Luža Square around midday.
- Approach via Luža Square (Placa) so you can take in the church façade and the nearby Rector's Palace; this is the main visitor entrance and the easiest access point in the Old Town.
- If you'll be in Dubrovnik in early February, expect large local ceremonies for the Feast of St Blaise (February 3) - that's a great cultural experience but not a quiet time to visit the church interior.
- Most passersby focus on the square; pause to notice the church's baroque exterior details and any interior artworks when the doors are open.
