St. Andrew's Church

St. Andrew’s Church is a Romanesque parish church in Kraków’s Old Town, notable for its unusually fortress-like appearance and narrow windows. It dates to the medieval period, built in the 11th to 12th centuries.

The exterior is characterised by thick masonry and small openings that give the building a defensive look; the compact plan and solid walls are prime examples of Romanesque ecclesiastical architecture in the region. The interior preserves historic masonry and later-period fittings that contrast with the austere exterior.

Originally constructed in the medieval period and surviving major urban changes, the building has seen later refurbishments and interior redecoration in post-medieval centuries. It has functioned continuously as a parish church since its foundation.

The church stands within Kraków’s Old Town, close to the Royal Route that runs toward the Main Market Square. It is within walking distance of central Kraków landmarks and sits amid dense historic streets of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship.
