Spanish Synagogue (Venice)

The Spanish Synagogue (Scola Spagnola) is a historic synagogue located in Venice’s Jewish Ghetto in the Cannaregio district and is presented as part of the Jewish Museum of Venice.

The interior is noted for its ornate liturgical furnishings, Torah ark and richly detailed paneling and decoration that reflect the Sephardic community that founded it. Access to the prayer hall is normally via the museum and is offered at scheduled times as part of guided or timed-entry visits.

The synagogue was established by Sephardic migrants to Venice and forms one of several historic synagogues clustered in the Ghetto area; today it is maintained for conservation and public display rather than regular congregational use.

It sits within the Ghetto of Cannaregio, one of Venice’s historic neighbourhoods, and is near other museum sites and canals that define the northern part of the city.
