Southern Moreton Bay Islands National Park is a Queensland national park protecting a series of islands and surrounding tidal habitats in Moreton Bay, off the coast of Brisbane. The park conserves mangroves, sandflats and seagrass beds that support shorebirds and marine life.
The islands and adjoining intertidal areas are valued for birdwatching, fishing from boats, and observing coastal ecosystems such as mangroves and seagrass beds. Low-tide reveals extensive mudflats used by migratory and resident shorebirds, and the park is important for coastal biodiversity.
The park was established by the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service to protect Moreton Bay’s island and intertidal habitats and to limit development on key conservation sites.
The park is located in southern Moreton Bay, off Brisbane’s southeastern coast, within the marine and island environment that forms part of the Bay’s protected area network.
- Access and facilities: Many of the islands are protected for their mangrove, intertidal and seabird habitats; there are no major visitor facilities and most access is by private boat or organized tour.
