Sounio National Park is a protected coastal area in the southern part of the Attica region of Greece, encompassing the promontory of Cape Sounion. The area is noted for its dramatic coastal cliffs, sea views and Mediterranean biotopes.
The park’s shoreline offers walking and viewing opportunities along rocky headlands and beaches; visitors commonly come for scenic views, coastal habitat and access to the archaeological site on Cape Sounion. The landscape is predominantly scrub, rocky shore and pine-covered slopes.
The landform and coastal features developed naturally; the most prominent human-made feature in the vicinity is the ancient Temple of Poseidon on Cape Sounion, which dates to the 5th century BCE. How to Get to Sounio National Park #

Organized tours and regional buses depart Athens; driving allows stops along the scenic Saronic coast. Parking is available near the archaeological site.

- Combine a trip with a drive along the coastal road from Athens (about 1.5-2 hours) to make the most of sea views and small seaside tavernas en route.
