Slættaratindur is the highest mountain in the Faroe Islands, located on the island of Eysturoy. It reaches roughly 880 metres in elevation and is the archipelago’s summit point.
From the summit there are extensive views across multiple Faroese islands on clear days, making it a popular objective for walkers and hill climbers. Routes vary in steepness and typically require good weather and basic mountain footwear.
The peak has long been recognized locally as the highest point in the Faroes and has been part of traditional sheep-grazing and local land use practices. It has not been the site of major historical constructions or settlements.
Slættaratindur sits near the central ridge of Eysturoy and is accessible from several small villages on the island; the nearest larger centres are the Faroese towns clustered on Eysturoy’s coast.
