Eastern Slovakia’s Slanské Hills are low mountains of beech and oak forest with networked trails, small villages and ruined hilltop castles; hikers and mountain bikers use the region for day trips from Košice.
The Slanské Hills are a low mountain range in eastern Slovakia, part of the Inner Western Carpathians, characterized by forested slopes, ridgelines and scattered settlements. The hills form a regional natural landscape used for forestry, local recreation and hiking.
Trails and forestry roads provide access for walking and nature activities; the area is not a major international tourist destination but is visited by locals and regional visitors for outdoor pursuits. The range contains typical Central European mixed forests and karst features in places.
Geographically the Slanské Hills lie in Košice Region of eastern Slovakia and form part of the larger Carpathian mountain system, sitting inland from the eastern Slovak lowlands and near regional towns in Košice Region.
