Šipan

Šipan is a Croatian island in the Adriatic Sea, part of the Elaphiti Islands off the coast of Dubrovnik. It is the largest island of the group and is known for its settlements, agricultural terraces and sheltered bays.

The island’s attractions include small historic harbors, coastal walking routes and quiet beaches, plus inland olive groves and vineyards that have shaped the landscape for centuries. Visitors use the island for day trips from Dubrovnik, short stays and walking or boat excursions between islands.

Historically the island was part of the maritime economy of Dubrovnik and earlier local polities, with fortified estates and manor houses belonging to noble families visible in village centres. Traditional agriculture and small-scale fishing have been mainstays of island life.

Šipan lies off the northwest coast of Dubrovnik in southern Croatia and is reached by ferry from Dubrovnik and neighbouring islands; its two principal villages serve as the main entry points.
