Sierra de Francia (comarca)

Sierra de Francia is a mountainous comarca in the province of Salamanca, in the autonomous community of Castile and León, Spain, formed by the Sierra de Francia range and its associated valleys. The area combines natural highland terrain with a group of historic villages.

Key attractions are the compact, well-preserved villages such as La Alberca and Miranda del Castañar, traditional rural architecture, and the pilgrimage site and viewpoint at Peña de Francia. The landscape includes chestnut and oak woodlands and walking routes for outdoor recreation.

The comarca developed through medieval settlement and rural life; many of the towns retain medieval street plans and historic buildings that reflect centuries of local tradition and agricultural economy.

Geographically the Sierra de Francia lies in southwestern Salamanca province near the border with Extremadura, forming part of the Sistema Central mountain system in western Spain.
