Sierra de Baza
Mountains Mountain range in southeastern Spain with deep gorges
Sierra de Baza in Granada province contains a natural park of chestnut and oak woods, limestone ridges and hiking trails; visitors come for birdwatching, mountain routes and local rural villages.
Sierra de Baza is a mountain range in the province of Granada in Andalusia, southern Spain. It forms part of the broader mountainous terrain of inland Granada and gives its name to the adjacent protected area, the Parque Natural de la Sierra de Baza.
The range features typical Mediterranean mountain landscapes and is used for hiking, nature observation, and rural recreation rather than for large-scale alpine activities. Vegetation varies with altitude and includes Mediterranean scrub and woodland.
Historically the area has a long rural tradition of shepherding and small-scale agriculture; parts of the range and surrounding valleys contain archaeological and historic rural settlements. Protection under the natural park framework recognises its ecological and landscape value.
Geographically the Sierra de Baza sits inland in northeastern Granada province; the city of Granada is the nearest major urban centre to the south, while the range rises from surrounding agricultural valleys.
