Sierra de Alhama is a mountain range in southern Spain that forms part of the Penibaetic System. It stretches across parts of the provinces in the southern Iberian Peninsula and forms a link in the system of ranges running parallel to the Mediterranean coast.
The range is characterized by steep ridges, river valleys and passes that have historically served as routes through the mountains. Vegetation and land use vary with altitude, and the area contains rural towns and agricultural terraces.
Geographically it lies in Andalusia in southern Spain and forms one element of the complex geology and topography of the Betic Cordillera.
How to Get to Sierra de Alhama #
The Sierra de Alhama lies inland from the Costa del Sol and is reachable from Málaga city by road (approximately 1-1.5 hours). Drive via the A-45 and local MA roads toward towns such as Alhama de Granada or Ventas de Zafarraya; many trailheads are accessed from rural roads with limited parking.
