Serra do Buçaco is a wooded hill range in central Portugal’s Coimbra District containing the Mata Nacional do Buçaco and an ornate 19th-century palace built on the site of a former religious house. The area combines managed historic woodland with architectural monuments.
Visitors follow mature promenades and paths through the forest to reach viewpoints, small chapels and the palace complex, which dominates the ridge. The forest contains a collection of introduced and native trees laid out in designed gardens and promenades.
