Semnoz is a mountain plateau and ski area in the Haute-Savoie region of France, located near the city of Annecy. It forms part of the greater Bauges Massif and provides panoramic views over Lake Annecy and the surrounding Alps.

The site is widely used for both winter sports and summer recreation - marked ski runs and winter facilities operate in season, and in summer the plateau is popular for hiking, cycling and scenic drives to the summit area. The summit and nearby viewpoints are key attractions for day visitors.

How to Get to Semnoz #

Semnoz is the mountain plateau overlooking Annecy. From Annecy drive west/uphill to the Semnoz road (about 15-25 minutes, roughly 15-25 km depending on start point) using the D41 and local departmental roads toward the Plateau du Semnoz; summit car parks are available and most viewpoints are a short walk (5-30 minutes) from the parking areas.

Tips for Visiting Semnoz #

Drive up from Annecy or Leschaux during clear weather for panoramic summit views over Lake Annecy and, on good days, the high Alps - late afternoon light often produces especially striking vistas.
Semnoz is a well-known cycling ascent and there is parking near the summit area; arrive earlier in summer weekends as the summit parking and viewpoint can fill up quickly.
If you plan to use mountain trails or the ski area in shoulder seasons, check local conditions first - visibility and weather change quickly at elevation, and some facilities operate seasonally.
