Sea Acres National Park is a small coastal reserve on the New South Wales Mid North Coast near Port Macquarie, Australia. It protects a remnant patch of littoral (coastal) rainforest and associated dune vegetation and foreshore.

A raised rainforest boardwalk of roughly 1 kilometre and an adjacent interpretive centre are the main visitor attractions, offering canopy and understory views and educational displays. The park is also used for birdwatching and short walks rather than multi-day backcountry trips.

The area was protected to conserve one of the region’s few surviving coastal rainforest remnants and to provide public access to this habitat. Facilities were developed to concentrate visitor use on the boardwalk and to reduce pressure on sensitive understorey plants.

Sea Acres lies on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales near Port Macquarie, adjacent to the Pacific Highway corridor. The reserve sits at low elevation along the coastal plain between the town and the ocean.

  • Boardwalk length: About 1 km in length and includes sealed sections suitable for many mobility levels.
  • Wildlife and timing: Best visited in cooler months for birdwatching; interpretive displays give good background on littoral rainforest species.

What to See #

  • Sea Acres Rainforest Centre: An interpretive visitor centre with displays about littoral rainforest ecology and local species, ticketing and a small café and picnic area.
  • Boardwalk: A raised boardwalk through remnant coastal rainforest that is approximately 1 kilometre long and provides accessible viewing of the canopy and understory.

How to Get to Sea Acres National Park #

Sea Acres National Park sits just north of Port Macquarie on the NSW mid-north coast-roughly a 10-15 minute drive (about 6 km) from the town centre. From the Pacific Highway, follow Marine Drive/Ocean Drive toward the coast; signage for Sea Acres and the Rainforest Centre is clear. There is a small car park at the Rainforest Centre; some regional buses stop in Port Macquarie and taxis or rideshares complete the last leg.

Tips for Visiting Sea Acres National Park #

  • Walk the boardwalk in the morning to catch rainforest birds and the luminous understory insects before the heat builds.
  • Start at the Sea Acres Rainforest Centre for the interpretive displays and a map-most visitors miss the short loop behind the centre that looks out over the coast.
  • The boardwalk is elevated and can be slippery after rain; the lower, shaded sections hold the most mosses and fungal growth-bring a camera with macro capability.
