Schöntal Abbey

Schöntal Abbey (Kloster Schöntal) is a former Cistercian monastery in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, notable for its large Baroque abbey complex. The site combines medieval origins with substantial 18th century Baroque rebuilding.

The ensemble includes an abbey church with Baroque interior decoration, a cloistered courtyard and the monastic buildings arranged around it; these are the primary points of interest for cultural and architectural visitors. Guided visits and occasional exhibitions focus on the church interior and the abbey’s historic spaces.

The monastery was established in the 12th century and later underwent major reconstruction and artistic refurbishment during the Baroque period in the 1700s. The house was secularized in the early 19th century and later preserved and restored as a historic monument.
