The Schneibstein is a 2,276-metre peak in the Berchtesgaden Alps on the border between Bavaria, Germany and the state of Salzburg, Austria. It is a prominent, accessible summit favored for day hikes and panoramic ridge walks.
The mountain’s summit ridge provides wide views across the Berchtesgaden region, including sightlines to the Watzmann massif and surrounding alpine peaks. Routes to the top are non-technical in summer and commonly used by hikers and ski tourers in winter.
The peak forms part of the border range and is reached via trails from the Rossfeld plateau and from Austrian valley trailheads; the area is served by local mountain-route signage and alpine huts.
Schneibstein lies southeast of the city of Salzburg, within the Berchtesgaden/Salzburg borderlands and accessible from nearby towns in both Germany and Austria.
