Schlossplatz (Stuttgart)

Schlossplatz is the principal central square in Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg, occupying a prominent position in the city centre and bounded by the New Palace and surrounding historic buildings. It functions as the city’s main public open space and is a regular venue for markets, concerts and civic events.

The plaza comprises broad lawns, paved promenades and fountains, with the Baroque-style Neues Schloss as the architectural focus on one side and the Königsbau and museum buildings on the others. The open layout and adjacent cultural institutions make it a daily meeting place for residents and visitors.

The square developed around the royal palace complex and has been reshaped several times; the New Palace itself sustained heavy damage in World War II and was rebuilt in the post-war period. Today the square connects Stuttgart’s main shopping street, Königstraße, with the palace and park.

Schlossplatz sits in the heart of Stuttgart, between the Hauptbahnhof area and the historic palace quarter, easily reachable on foot from the city’s main transport hubs.
