Schloss Esterházy

Schloss Esterházy is the historic palatial complex in Eisenstadt, Burgenland, Austria, that served as the principal seat of the Esterházy noble family. The complex is best known for its 18th-century association with the composer Joseph Haydn and for an 18th-century concert hall preserved on site.

The site developed over several centuries as the Esterházy family expanded and remodelled their residence; major Baroque rebuilding and interior decoration date to the 18th century when the family maintained an active court orchestra. Joseph Haydn served as Kapellmeister to the Esterházys for much of the second half of the 18th century and the palace retains a concert tradition tied to his legacy.
