Schloss Drachenburg

Schloss Drachenburg is a late 19th-century private villa built in a historicist ‘castle’ style on the slopes of the Drachenfels near Königswinter on the Rhine, Germany. It was commissioned as a private residence and designed to resemble a romantic hilltop castle.

The house contains richly detailed period interiors, terraces and a tower that together form the principal visitor attractions; the immediate site offers panoramic views of the Rhine and the Siebengebirge. The building is open to the public as a historic house and cultural site with visitor access to representative rooms and the terraces.

Constructed in the late 19th century for a private patron, the property later underwent different uses and conservation efforts before opening as a museum and event venue. Restoration work in the 20th and 21st centuries has aimed to preserve its historicist appearance and interior fittings.

Schloss Drachenburg sits above Königswinter on the right bank of the Rhine, close to the Drachenfels rock and within the Siebengebirge region east of Bonn, making it reachable from the Bonn-Cologne area.
