Santa Maria della Pace

Santa Maria della Pace is a Roman church in the historic center of Rome, on Via della Pace close to Piazza Navona. The building dates to the late 15th century and is noted for Renaissance and Baroque work added later.

The site is best known for its compact interior and an adjoining Renaissance cloister often attributed to Donato Bramante. The church displays layered architectural phases and decorative work from different periods, so visits commonly focus on the cloister and the interior chapels.

The present church was erected in the late 15th century and subsequently altered in later centuries, receiving Baroque additions and interior redecorations. Architectural interventions over time produced the mix of Renaissance structure and later facade and decoration visible today.

The church sits in central Rome’s historical core, a short walk from Piazza Navona, the Pantheon and other major monuments. It is easily reached on foot from several central tourist hubs.
