Santa Bárbara Castle sits above the town of Teguise on the island of Lanzarote in the Canary Islands. The fortress dates to the early modern period and was built to defend the town and island against pirate attacks.
Constructed in the 16th century as part of island defenses, the fortress was used to protect the island and the settlement of Teguise from corsair raids and naval threats. Over time the structure was repaired and repurposed and today serves as a museum and historic attraction.
