Sandomierz Castle is a medieval royal castle located on a hill above the town of Sandomierz in south-eastern Poland. Its origins date to the medieval period and the site has been adapted and rebuilt several times.
The complex includes a keep and defensive structures that now accommodate exhibition spaces and displays relating to the castle and regional history. The castle is a focal point of the town’s historic core and is visible from the riverside and market areas.
Constructed in the Middle Ages, the castle has undergone phases of rebuilding and restoration reflecting changing defensive and residential needs over centuries. Its present role is largely cultural and museological.
The castle occupies a dominant position on the edge of Sandomierz’s old town, overlooking the Vistula river valley and the town’s streets and squares.

How to Get to Sandomierz Castle #
Sandomierz Castle is in Sandomierz’s Old Town beside the market square. If you arrive by regional train or long‑distance bus the town station/terminal is about a kilometre or so from the Old Town (roughly a 10-20 minute walk depending on exact arrival point); from the market square the castle is a very short walk of a few minutes.

- Visit the castle first thing in the morning to beat the river-cruise and coach groups that arrive later in the day; early visits also make the Old Town easier to explore afterward.
- Enter the castle from the Old Town side (Rynek area) and check the Museum's opening hours in advance - guided or timed entries often coincide with other local attractions, so coordinate to avoid repeat queues.
