San Michele Maggiore, Pavia

San Michele Maggiore is a Romanesque basilica in Pavia, Lombardy, Italy, notable for its architectural quality and medieval stone decoration. The current fabric dates principally to the 11th and 12th centuries.

Built in the Romanesque period on the site of earlier churches, the present building was completed in the 11th to 12th centuries and has retained much of its medieval character. It has been an important ecclesiastical building in Pavia since the Middle Ages and has undergone conservation work to preserve its stone decoration.
