Samobor Castle (Stari grad Samobor) is a medieval hilltop fortress in Zagreb County above the town of Samobor, Croatia. The site consists of visible ruined walls and a keep set on a prominent limestone hill.
The fortress dates to the medieval period and was part of local defensive networks that overlooked the town and trade routes. Over subsequent centuries it fell out of military use and gradually became a ruin; what remains today are fragments of the original fortifications.
The castle stands directly above the town of Samobor, about 20 km west of the city of Zagreb, on a wooded hill that dominates the immediate townscape.
- Walk time from town: The uphill walk from Samobor town center to the castle takes roughly 15 to 30 minutes depending on route and fitness, with steeper sections near the summit.
