How to Get to Samamea
Samamea is a small coastal village on the northeast of Upolu. The closest international airport is Faleolo International Airport (APW) near Apia; from Apia you continue by local bus or private taxi to reach the village.
Faleolo International Airport (APW): Faleolo is Samoa’s main international gateway, located west of Apia. Taxis from Faleolo to Apia take about 30-40 minutes; expect a private taxi to take you to Apia (the main hub for onward travel to villages) in around 30-40 minutes. Local buses (public route minibuses) run between the airport and Apia; journey time is typically 40-60 minutes depending on stops.
(No other major airports): For inter-island travel to Savai’i use the Salelologa ferry from Mulifanua wharf (served by road from Apia). There are no scheduled commercial flights directly into Samamea itself.
Train: There are no train services in Samoa.
Bus: Apia is the main bus hub for Upolu. From Apia you reach Samamea by local bus or village minibus routes that follow the north coast; travel from Apia to Samamea is rural and can take around 1.5-2 hours depending on stops and road conditions. Buses are informal, cash-only and schedules vary by day. Taxis or private transfers from Apia are the faster, more reliable option for reaching remote villages.
How to Get Around Samamea #
Samamea is a very small, remote village - most exploring is on foot around the settlement and nearby beach. Paths are short but can be uneven and muddy after rain, so sturdy shoes are useful. There’s no regular public transport serving the hamlet; access is normally by private car or infrequent local buses/collector vehicles from larger towns. Plan transfers in advance and carry small change for rides.
