How to Get to Salvadiós#
Salvadiós is a small rural location best reached via Ávila city. Most international visitors will travel through Madrid (MAD), then use rail or bus to Ávila and continue by car or local transport to the village.
Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport (MAD): Madrid-Barajas is the main international hub for the region. From the airport to Ávila expect about 1h15-1h45 by road; private taxis/transfers cost roughly €120-€160 to Ávila.
Valladolid-Villanubla Airport (VLL): Valladolid airport has regional services and may be convenient for northern parts of Castile and León. Travel onward by car or a combination of train/bus; expect longer total travel times and less frequent connections to Ávila than from Madrid.
Train: Renfe’s Media Distancia trains connect Madrid (Chamartín) and Ávila in about 1h15-1h30; fares are generally in the €8-€15 range. Ávila station is the railhead for the province; you’ll need additional transport to reach Salvadiós.
Bus: Buses from Madrid (Moncloa) to Ávila (Avanza and others) take roughly 1h20-1h40 with fares around €8-€12. Regional routes link Ávila to the smaller municipalities but services are limited-confirm times before you travel.
How to Get Around Salvadiós#
There is no single convenient public-transport option directly into these tiny villages; reaching them usually means getting to Ávila first and then switching to a car, taxi or limited regional bus. Renting a car (or arranging a taxi/transfer) is the most practical and time-efficient choice for visiting multiple villages.
- Car (hire) (35-70 EUR/day) - A rental car is the most flexible way to visit Salvadiós and neighbouring villages. Road signage can be sparse in remote areas, so a GPS or offline map is useful; fuel and occasionally tolls should be budgeted for.
- Regional bus (1.50-6 EUR) - Regional buses provide the cheapest option for getting between Ávila and nearby towns, but frequencies are low. Tickets are inexpensive; verify departure times and plan for limited evening services.
- Train (RENFE to Ávila) (8-15 EUR) - Take Renfe Media Distancia services to Ávila from Madrid. From Ávila station, arrange a taxi or local bus to reach the village-there is no direct train service to small settlements like Salvadiós.
- Taxi / Private transfer (20-120 EUR) - Taxis from Ávila offer door-to-door service to remote villages. They are convenient for short visits or if bus schedules don’t work; negotiated transfer rates are common for longer trips from cities like Madrid.
- Carpool / BlaBlaCar (6-25 EUR) - BlaBlaCar can offer cheaper intercity travel to Ávila; it’s a good budget option but depends on driver availability. You’ll still need a local solution from Ávila to the actual village.
- Walking - Walking is ideal for exploring the village and nearby trails. For inter-village travel or reaching Ávila, walking is impractical because of the distances involved.
