Saint Peter’s Abbey (Stift Sankt Peter) is a Benedictine monastery in Salzburg founded around 696 by Saint Rupert and continuously associated with the city’s religious life. The abbey precinct lies at the foot of the Festungsberg immediately adjacent to Salzburg Cathedral and the Hohensalzburg Fortress.

Much of the visible monastic architecture was remodelled in Baroque style during the 17th and 18th centuries.

Buildings on the site were rebuilt and redecorated in successive phases, notably during the Baroque period when many Salzburg monastic complexes were renovated.
