How to Get to Sabanalarga
Sabanalarga is reached mainly by road from Barranquilla (BAQ) or Cartagena (CTG). There are no passenger trains in the area; buses and shared taxis (colectivos) are the standard local intercity options.
Ernesto Cortissoz International Airport, Barranquilla (BAQ): The closest major airport for Sabanalarga (Atlántico). From BAQ you can take a taxi or route taxi (colectivo) to Sabanalarga; travel time is roughly 40-60 minutes depending on traffic. Taxi fares are typically COP 60,000-90,000; shared vans and buses from Barranquilla city are much cheaper (see bus paragraph).
Rafael Núñez International Airport, Cartagena (CTG): Cartagena is further (1.5-2.5 hours by road depending on traffic) but offers more flight options. From CTG you can take intermunicipal buses toward Barranquilla and change for Sabanalarga, or hire a taxi for a longer but direct transfer (expect 90-150 minutes).
Train: Colombia does not have regular intercity passenger rail services in this region, so there is no train access to Sabanalarga.
Bus: Intermunicipal buses and colectivos run frequently between Barranquilla’s Terminal de Transportes and Sabanalarga (Terminal de Transporte de Sabanalarga). Journey time from Barranquilla is around 45-75 minutes depending on route; fares are generally affordable (approx. COP 5,000-15,000). Buses from Cartagena that stop in Barranquilla can be used to reach Sabanalarga with a transfer.
