Sabadell Travel Guide
City City in Catalonia, Spain
Once an industrial textile hub, Sabadell now tempts day-trippers from Barcelona with Modernist factories repurposed as cultural centers, a busy central market, parks for Sunday passejos, and local Catalan taverns serving roast meats and stews.
Why Visit Sabadell? #
Sabadell combines Catalan industrial heritage with lively neighborhood life just outside Barcelona. La Creu Alta’s modernist buildings and the Mercat Central offer architectural texture and everyday food culture, while local music venues and cafés fuel a spirited community scene. Its proximity to Barcelona makes Sabadell a comfortable place to experience Catalan urban life without the larger city crowds.
Who's Sabadell For?
Sabadell is a practical family base near Barcelona, with parks like Parc de Catalunya, museums and accessible schools-style attractions. Good public transport connections to Barcelona expand day-trip options for family entertainment.

How to Get to Sabadell
Sabadell is easiest reached via Barcelona-El Prat airport, with onward connections by commuter rail (FGC) or long-distance bus. The town has its own FGC/RENFE stations (Sabadell Centre and Sabadell Nord) that link directly with Barcelona's rail network.
Barcelona-El Prat (BCN): The main gateway for Sabadell. From Terminal 1/2 you can take the Aerobus (A1/A2) to Plaça Catalunya in about 30-40 minutes for roughly €5.90 one-way, or the Rodalies/RENFE R2 train from Terminal 2 to Barcelona Sants/El Clot (about 20-25 minutes) for around €4.60; from Plaça Catalunya/Sants you then change to the FGC commuter trains to Sabadell Centre (see Train section).
Girona-Costa Brava (GRO): A secondary option for low-cost carriers and some seasonal flights. ALSA and other coach services link Girona airport and Girona city to Barcelona Estació del Nord in roughly 1h15-1h45 for about €10-€15; Renfe trains from Girona to Barcelona Sants take ~40-60 minutes (prices vary by service, typically €8-€20). From Barcelona centre take FGC/Rodalia or a bus to Sabadell (see Train & Bus card).
Train: Sabadell is served by Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC) suburban lines into Estació Sabadell Centre (often shown as Sabadell Centre). FGC services run from Barcelona Plaça Catalunya and Barcelona Sants area; the journey Plaça Catalunya → Sabadell Centre takes roughly 30-40 minutes. Renfe Cercanías (Rodalies) also serves the Sabadell area (Sabadell Nord is the main Renfe stop); expect suburban rail journeys from Barcelona to Sabadell in the 30-45 minute range, fares depend on Catalunya’s ATM zones and the operator-check FGC/Renfe sites for current single-ticket prices and zone information.
Bus: Interurban buses connect Barcelona (Estació del Nord) and other towns with Sabadell; travel time is typically 30-60 minutes depending on traffic. Local company and intercity lines (check schedules from Sagalés/ALSA and local Transports Urbans de Sabadell) run frequent services; single-trip local buses inside Sabadell are inexpensive (a few euros) and are the simplest option if you’re coming from nearby towns.
How to Get Around Sabadell
Getting around Sabadell is straightforward: use FGC commuter trains for fast connections to Barcelona and the surrounding Vallès towns, and local buses or taxis for last-mile travel. For most visitors, a combination of FGC + short bus/taxi rides works best - walk for short trips around the centre.
- FGC (Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya) (€2.50-€4.50) - The FGC Metro del Vallès lines are the most convenient rail option from central Barcelona to Sabadell Centre. Trains run frequently from Plaça Catalunya and take about 30-40 minutes; they are comfortable and reliable for day trips to/from the city. Buy integrated ATM tickets at machines or use the operator apps - useful if you'll be transferring within Barcelona's public-transport network.
- Renfe Rodalies (Cercanías) (€2.50-€5.00) - Renfe's commuter network serves Sabadell Nord and connects with Barcelona Sants and other regional hubs. Trains are frequent during peak hours and are a good option if you're coming from routes that feed into the Renfe network. Ticket price depends on distance and zones; validate with Renfe/ATM information before travel.
- Intercity & Local Bus (€1.50-€6.00) - Intercity buses from Barcelona (Estació del Nord) take roughly 30-60 minutes depending on traffic; companies include ALSA and regional operators-check their timetables for direct runs. Sabadell's local buses (Transports Urbans de Sabadell) cover neighbourhoods not served by rail and are cheap for short hops. Expect modest delays in rush hour; buses are a practical alternative if you're near an Estació del Nord departure or need a stop closer to your destination.
- Taxi & Rideshare (€15-€60) - Taxis are easy to find and comfortable for door-to-door trips, especially with luggage or late arrivals; a taxi from central Barcelona will be relatively expensive and depends on traffic. Rideshare apps (Cabify/Bolt in the region) operate intermittently - check availability and surge pricing. Use taxis for convenience, not for saving money in heavy-traffic periods.
- Bike - rental & short-term hire (€4-€15/day) - Sabadell is reasonably cycle-friendly with dedicated lanes in parts of the town; bike rental shops and informal short-term hire options exist for daily exploring. Cycling is a fast way to cover short distances and see neighbourhoods outside the centre, but watch for busy junctions and limited bike lanes in some suburbs. Helmets and locks are recommended; prices for daily rentals are typically affordable.
- Walking - Sabadell's centre is compact and pleasant to explore on foot - parks, shops and the Rambla are all walkable. Walking is often the quickest way to move between nearby sights and discover local cafés and markets. Comfortable shoes are recommended; bring an umbrella in wet months.
