Ruppiner See is a freshwater lake in the Brandenburg region of Germany, located in the Ostprignitz-Ruppin area. The town of Neuruppin lies on its northern shore and is the lake’s main settlement.
The lake is used for recreational boating, fishing and shoreline walking, with small marinas and public access points around its perimeter. Cyclists and walkers often follow routes that run along the lake and connect to neighbouring lakes in the Ruppiner Seenland.
Ruppiner See formed as part of the post-glacial landscape that characterises much of Brandenburg, and its shoreline has been settled for centuries. Neuruppin developed as a regional centre on the lake and provides visitor facilities, boat rentals and lakeside promenades.
The lake sits in north-eastern Brandenburg, with Neuruppin providing the nearest significant services and transport links. The surrounding landscape is low-lying and consists of agricultural land, smaller lakes and mixed woodland.
